Theodore R. Small, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Small was born in Greenville, South Carolina. He received his bachelor’s degree in Biology from the College of Charleston and medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He completed his internship and residency at the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in South Carolina.

Dr. Small served with the United States Air Force with tours at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, and Eglin Air Base, Florida. During his Air Force career, he performed and taught techniques in advanced laparoscopic surgery, especially anti-reflux or heartburn surgery and laparoscopic colon resections.

For almost two decades, Dr. Small has served as a consultant surgeon for Ethicon Endo Surgery as a course director for advanced laparoscopic procedures and preceptor to surgeons from all over the country interested in new techniques. Dr. Small performs all varieties of laparoscopic or minimally invasive procedures including hernia, adrenal, spleen, colon and weight loss surgeries.

Dr. Small is the Medical Director of the Morton Plant Mease Bariatric Center. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, the Southern Medical Association, the Southeastern Surgical Congress, and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.
